Mile Mark: 11.00

Date Built: ca. 1910

This pit is used to catch cinders from the locomotives as their ash pans are cleaned before and after service. There was at one time a spur and platform next to the pit for a hopper to be spotted and loaded with the cinder. Today the backhoe is used to empty the pit but the cinder is still used as ballast.
