The power for mine operations came from this plant. This plant used fire tube boilers which were proned to explosion if operated incorrectly. The shop boilers in Rockhill were water tube style. Trough Creek tended to run dry in the summer and adequate water for the boilers had to be hauled in. On one occasion it is thought this resulted in tainted mine water being used in the boiler, causing them to explode.
The Boiler House remains are just northwest of Mine No. 5.
