This wye was built in 1961 as a turning facility for trains after the three mile 1960 excursion was extende here. It eliminated the need for two locomotives running in opposite directons to pull the train cah wasy, as was done during 1960 operations. The north leg and east tail were laid on the old Clay Pit Spur roadbed, abandoned more than 30 years before. The south leg and the picnic facilities were built in 1961.

The south leg has developed an unintentional bank over the years.
