This modern highway overpass replaced a section of 522 north of Shirleysburg. The original plan for the bridge placed one of the columns so close to the EBT that it could not be reoperated. After a public outcry, the bridge was redesigned to allow the necessary clearance. At the conclusion of the work a 100' section of the EBT was reconstructed, minus EBT's hallmark ballast. The project, which included the rebuilding of several miles of 522, was completed about 1988. The bridge project was allocated in 1982 for a cost of $825,000.
