This combination punch and shear machine was manufactured by the Bemont Works, Philadelphia, PA as unit no. 606-12. The west end of the machine has a punching mechanism while the east end has a shear. The unit has a lrtge flywheel input pulley to store energy needed for the sudden punching or shearing operation. The power is then transferred through a series of reduction gears.
The shear on this unit is what is known as a nibbling shear, cutting a section at a time like scissors rather than the entire sheet at once. In this way it could cut curves.
The unit is not currently operational, but moves and has received some cleanup and lubrication in 2010-2011.
