The Poplar Hollow grade extends from Saltillo to Sideling Hill Tunnel and is the steepest on the main line. The grade climbs around the south side of a gap in Clear Ridge then south along the side of the ridge and across to Sideling Hill at Fairview. Much of the way up the track rests on a ledge on the side of the ridge.
