M-4 is a diesel powered model JCD, by Plymouth Locomotive Works, Plymouth, OH. It was brought the the property from Kovalchick Salvage's acquisition of Warner Corporation's Union Furnace Quarry, near Pemberton, PA, Huntingdon County. It is reported as having been brought in during the summer of 1978 G1, however footage of a Winter Spectacular identified as 1977 shows the unit at work then G2. Likely, the derilict gas-mechanical Plymouth (dubbed the 'ghost') was purchaced at the same time.

M-4's diesel is started by means of a gasoline powered pony engine rather than an electric starter.

M-4 operates primarily in Maintenance of Way service. With M-5 and later M-7 on the property, M-4 sees less action now, but is usualy used for lighter shifting and pulling the steamers out of their stalls for servicing and ligher MOW trains. She wears yellow on the cab and cowling with dark green frame and black lettering. Traditionally she usually resided Paint Shop until it was converted into a restoration shop for FEBT. In the 2000s and 2010s she was usually parked in the north end of the Car Shop or in the Locomotive Shop.
