2nd #5 was purchased new from the Baldwin Locomotive Works to compliment the nearly identical #9, purchased secondhand four years earlier.

2nd #5 had her moment of glory January 1899 when she fell into the turntable pit in Rockhill, when the turntable, in poor condition for some time, collapsed under the load. This lead to a replacement turntable being procured.

2nd #5 was the second locomotive named after Rockhill, the borough where the EBT's main shops and onsite offices were located. It is unclear why the name shifted from 1st #3 to 1nd #5 as names usually stayed with the successive lineage of a particular number.

In 1908 #5 suffered a failure of one of her Stephenson eccentric cranks (inside the frame.) The resulting loose rod hit the track and threw the locomotive off the side of the track and onto an embankment. The locomotive was repaired and returned to service. G3

By some accounts 2nd #5 was stored in 1919 and sold in 1943 G1 to an equipment dealer. By other accounts, it was sold for scrap in 1936. In either case, second #5 was the last of the early narrow firebox mainline locomotives on the property, though second #4 and second #3 may have been in operation later than her.
